6 Book Series I Want to Finish... probably
Book series - we all love them but how many of them do we actually finish? I don't know about you, but I tend to read one book, want to continue with the series, and then pick the following book years later. I realize that this is one of my reading quirks, but it needs to stop at least for a handful of series that I really really want to finish. So, I've compiled this list to hold me accountable, and to actually decide to read the following installments.
#1 The Indian Lake Trilogy, by Stephen Graham Jones
The first book series that came up to mind when compiling this list is The Indian Lake Trilogy, and the funny thing is that it is the newest addition. To be precise, I've just finished reading book 1, My Heart Is a Chainsaw, two days ago. But it was such an amazing book that I simply need to pick Don't Fear the Reaper and The Angel of Indian Lake as soon as possible. I never imagined that out of all the horror books I've tried the year, my one 5* would be the slasher.
#2 Pentecost and Parker, by Stephen Spotswood
Why haven't I continued with this series? The first book, Fortune Favors the Dead, was a surprising 5* read for me, and I can't recommend it enough. In fact, I've already talked about it on my LGBTQ+ book recs in June. Having a noir atmosphere, a 1940s New York setting, an interesting main character duo, and many twists, it has everything I love in a mystery. The following books in the Pentecost and Parker series are Murder Under Her Skin, Sicrets Typed in Blood, Murder Crossed Her Mind, and Dead in the Frame. One thing though, why did they have to change the covers midseries? I love the aesthetic of the first books, but don't really care for the last three.
#3 Discworld - Ankh-Morpork City Watch Series, by Sir Terry Pratchett
Discworld is a 41-book series, and the plan is to read the entirety of it. However, in this list, I've only included the sub-series that I've already started. Right now, I've read 4 books out of the 8 in the Ankh-Morpork City Watch sub-series, and I can't get enough of it. Earlier this year, I read Jingo and I'm planning on reading The Fifth Elephant pretty soon.
#4 Dune, by Frank Herbert
Dune is a great example of a series that I've started ages ago, and I've still haven't finished it. So far, I've read Dune and Dune Messiah, and to be honest, I was satisfied having read Paul's story arc. However, when the recent films came out, I reread book 1, and now I simply need to continue with the series. As you might notice in the image, I've only included the novels written by Frank Herbert, and not the ones written by his son, Brian Herbert.
#5 Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams
Another series that I've been meaning to continue for who knows how many years now. Having read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, I know that I'm going to enjoy the rest of series. There is really no reason why I haven't done it already. Of course, it is worth noting that the series has 6 books, and not just the 5 I've included in the image. Howerver, the 6th book, And Another Thing..., was written by Eoin Colfer almost 8 years after Douglas Adams's death. Even though I'm not planning on reading it (just like Dune's later books), I might make an exception because I grew up with Artemis Fowl and I have a soft spot for Eoin Colfer because of that.
#6 Wayward Pines, by Blake Crouch
Wayward Pines is the reason why this probably exists in the title of this blog post. I've read book 1, Pines, a couple of months ago, and I had a great time with it. It didn't become a favourite, but it was still very entertaining. However, I was satisfied with its ending - we got an answer to what was going on. So, I can't really imagine what will take place in the rest of the series, and that's why I'm interesting in continuing.
What book series do you want to finish?
Have you read any of the series in this list?
