Monthly Reading Wrap-Up: June 2026
Hello, everyone! Everytime it's time to write yet another montly reading wrapup, I keep wondering how fast the month has passed. June was a hectic month for me, with a long hours at work, and the reflected in my reading. I am started to wonder if it has also affected my overall enjoyment, since I find it difficult to connect with what I'm reading.
In any case, I ended up completing 5 books in June and my average rating was 3.15*, which might probably be the worst reading month I've had in a while. However, I did manage to find a 5* read.
So, here is what I read this month:
Books I've Completed in June 2026
- Before Sunrise - Elle Germain: The first book of the month was a romance novella that I received by the author through BookSiren, and I'm so grateful for that. It was short, sweet, and most definitely summery, even though it wasn't a story that I would be thinking for a long time. You can read my thoughts in my review.
- The Correspondent - Virginia Evans: This was the 5* book of the month, and I ended up finishing it the morning before it was announced that it had won the Women's Prize for Fiction. I understand that it's not easy to like our protagonist, Sybil, but her correspondence was fascinating. I loved following her journey, and get glimpses of her story here and there. I even teared up a little bit.
- The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger: My book club's pick for June was this classic novel, which I haven't read before. So, it was the perfect chance to take it off my TBR. Unfortunately, I knew from the first couple of chapters that I wanted to DNF it, and the only reason I finished was to have an opinion. Having said that, I picked up the audiobook around the 1/4 mark, and this definitely made reading it a bit easier. But my overall thoughts is that I should have read that at a yoounger age.
- Women Who Run With the Wolves - Clarissa Pinkola Estés: Well, I need to pick better-suited nonfictions for me. Even though I liked the opening chapters of this book, I ended up feelings totally indifferent for the rest. It could easily have been 200 less pages. Moreover, I just couldn't get on board with what the author was saying as it was too spiritual for me.
- Our Wives Under the Sea - Julia Armfield: Even though this book got the second highest rating of the month, it was the most disappointing for me. And that is clearly because I had such high expectations. To be fair, the writing was beautiful, and the ending made me feel that it was worth the while. However, I won't lie that I didn't find Miri an insufferable character to hear from - insufferable and a bit inconsistent. I'm glad that I finally ticked it off my horror TBR though, and I'm excited to read more from this author.
Books I'm Currently Reading
- Pictures of You - Josh Malerman: Exciting news! I've received this ARC via NetGalley and you'll read my thought really really soon in a review. To be honest, it's already been a couple of days since I've finshed it, but I won't reveal anything here.
- It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over - Anne de Marcken: Right now, I'm currently reading this speculative/literary novella about a zombie. I picked this book for Summerween, and so far I'm loving it.
