Thank you so much to Erika at Books, Stars, Writing. And Everything In Between. for tagging me! This is such an interesting and fun tag!
I'm not going to tag anybody, but whoever is interested should do it and let me know :)
So, my choices for the Bookish Academy Tag are:
1. Best Actor (Best Male Protagonist)
Paul Atreides from Dune by Frank Herbert. Paul is a very complex character and for me he is one of the major reasons why Dune is one of the greatest sci-fi novels.
2. Best Actress (Best Female Protagonist)
Holly Short from the Artemis Fowl series. Holly is spirited, talkative and sarcastic. She is the ideal counterpart of Artemis Fowl.
3. Best Cinematography (Best Plot Twist)
Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. Those who have read my earlier review know that this novel was a disappointment to me. But I have to admit that I was constantly surprised by the twists in the plot.
4. Best Costume Design (Best Book Cover)
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. Ok, I'm a fangirl and I cannot hide it. But this cover is gorgeous. In fact, this is the edition of one of my favourite books that I have on my shelf.
5. Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Best Male and Female Sidekicks)
Male:
Shogo Kawada from Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Shogo is a guy of few words, a tough one, but I immediately liked him. The story could never be the same without him.
Female:
Miwako Sakurada from Paradise Kiss by Ai Yazawa. This is a very unique manga and this fact has to do with the characters in it. Miwako is really likeable and helps Yukari when she needs it.
6. Best Original Screenplay (Most unique plot/world)
The Gracekeepers by Kirsty Logan. I chose this novel mostly because of its unique world. It's definitely one of the most interesting reads of the year.
7. Best Adapted Screenplay (Best Book-to-Movie Adaptation)
The Princess Bride by William Goldman. The 1987 is such an amazing adaptation that there are many who don't even know the novel. But I have to tell you that they are equally good.
8. Best Animated Feature (A Book that Would Work Well Animated)
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. Generally, Gaiman's stories would work very well for this medium. Coraline is, of course, a very nice example of the result of such adaptations. I believe that The Ocean at the End of the Lane would work perfectly as well.
9. Best Director (A Writer you Discovered for the First Time)
Banana Yoshimoto. This year during the Japanese themed read I got the chance to read Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto. I was enthusiastic about it and I'll definitely read her other works.
10. Best Visual Effects (Best Novella or Short Book)
All You Zombies by Robert A. Heinlein. This science fiction short story is astoundingly good. But it's not an easy read, although it's really short. Since I first read it I find myself still thinking about it. Last year's film Predestination was based upon it.
11. Best Picture (Best Standalone)
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. This was the toughest decision I had to make for this tag. Never Let Me Go is an emotional read and I can't recommend it enough.
This were my choices for the Bookish Academy Tag. What did you think? What other novels/characters would you nominate? If you participate, please let me know. I'd love to read your answers :)
Loved these answers! :D I totally agree with you about Holly Short being the best female character. She's so awesome!
